About Luc(as) de Groot

Berlin-based Dutch type designer Luc(as) de Groot is best-known for his superfamily Thesis: TheSans, TheSerif, TheMix, TheAntiqua, with monospaced and even Arabic variants. But his repertoire is much wider and his type became a subtle part of everyday life.

The Thesis Project

The Thesis superfamily was first published in 1994 as part of the FontFont collection, and became part of the LucasFonts type library in 2000. The family was conceived as a versatile typographic system of ambitious scope.

The LucasFonts Team

Based in Berlin, Germany, LucasFonts is a bustling type design studio with a small, dedicated team of designers and type technicians. At times, talented students or graduates are invited to join the team temporarily as interns.

Luc de Groot, Early Work

From 1983 to 1988 Luc(as) de Groot studied at the graphic design department of the Royal Academy of Arts (KABK) in The Hague, where his most influential teacher was Gerrit Noordzij.
